Aubrey turned 4 today! We had a princess party at our house. It was pretty calm as far as the 4 year olds were concerned. It was her 9 year old brother and almost 7 year old sister who were on the wild side.

Google Earth
OK, so maybe we are really slow around here. And maybe we are the last people in the world to google earth. Hello!!! How cool is that. We are all addicted in our house now. Seriously. Steve and I spent about an hour yesterday on it while the kids were at school. Then Steve and I and Zac and Emily stayed up till 11pm last night googleing earth. We went everywhere. France, NY, Grand Canyon, Germany, Temple Square, Hawaii, statue of Liberty, our honeymoon hotel in Cancun, Egypt, we saw where Sam is on his mission, South Africa, Disney World, Disneyland, my old high school...you name it, we were there. Then we got out our address book and went to everyone's house that we know. Yes, if we know you, we looked at your house last night. We had so much fun! Then this morning Steve found Zac and Em on the computer, flying over Iraq looking at stuff. Pretty funny. For real. If you have never googled earth, you have to do it NOW! You can see real satellite pictures of anywhere in the world. You just type in an address or name of a place and it takes you there. You can Zoom in and everything. I'm tellin' you, it is so much fun.

Family Secret
Ok, so as a mother who is usually very careful about the things her kids watch or the video games they play, this is hard for me to admit. Our family has a little secret. Well it's not much of a secret anymore. For Christmas Zac's class at school made a calendar to give their parents. The top of the calendar has information about Zac. It is a list of questions his teacher posed and then his responses. One of them says "For fun my family likes to..." and right there hanging on the kitchen wall for all to see is his answer "PLAY HALO". You see we are the chosen ones. Chosen to babysit Sam's X Box 360 for 2 years while he is in Mexico. And yes, for fun, our family likes to play Halo together. So tonight when we were sitting around the dinner table and Steve said "Who thinks we should have a family Halo tournament tonight?", all the kids got excited and helped clean up the kitchen so they could enter the world of violent video games and play long into the night.OUCH!

Aubery has this thing. I don't understand it fully, but she likes to hang from things. Like when we are home alone and the other kids are at school and I can't find her anywhere. I finally find her in Zac's room hanging from his ladder with her arms and legs wrapped around it. Sometimes I will walk into the kitchen and she will be hanging from the table leg. So on Monday I was making lunch and she was hanging from the counter and wrapped her legs around a stool and pulled the stool over on top her herself. She got a black eye from the whole thing. That hasn't stopped her from hanging though. Yesterday we got home from the hospital just before she got home from pre-school. She walked in the door and there she was, wearing shorts in the middle of winter. I told Steve "GREAT!" I am sure they are going to call child protective services what with the black eye and shorts in January when there is snow on the ground and then the unbrushed hair on top of all of that. I guess Steve was in a hurry getting them off to school by himself.
Hospital

Addison had to stay in the hospital for a few days. She got really sick and I took her to the doctor on Monday. They thought she had RSV and told me what to watch for and to call them if she got worse. They also sent me home with a nebulizer and had me give her breathing treatments every 4 hours to help with her wheezing. On Tuesday I was giving her a breathing treatment and she started breathing very rapid shallow breaths. I pulled her shirt up to see if her skin was caving in around her ribs when she breathed (something they told me to look for) and it was caving in. I also noticed that the skin on her stomach looked grayish blue. I called her doctor and they had us take her into the hospital. She had also been running a fever and I was giving her Tylenol every 4 hours and it wasn't helping much to bring her fever down. They admitted her to the hospital and hooked her up to monitors so they could watch her heart rate and oxygen level. Then they did a bunch of tests on her blood and urine. They said depending on what they found she might have to have a spinal tap. Since she was running such a high fever and was so young they wanted to make sure she didn't have some type of bacterial disease. Her white blood count came back high so they went ahead and did a spinal tap. It was a very hard thing for me to watch. I know what it is like to have a hole in your spine and have spinal fluid leaking out. I find it interesting that I refused to have an epidural with Addison when she was born to avoid that very thing and now here she is having the same thing done to her less than 2 months later. They watched the culture of her spinal fluid for a few day to make sure that she didn't have any bacteria in it. It turned out to be fine. They did another blood test yesterday before we left the hospital and her white blood count was normal. We had to spend 2 nights in the hospital. Addison is doing much better now. She is glad to be home. She got so excited to see her brother and sisters. She couldn't stop smiling at them. They found out that she has a virus that is like RSV but it is a new virus that they have recently discovered and started testing for. I can't remember the name of it. They said that it usually peaks and is really bad for about 2 days then it starts getting better. We peaked in the hospital but now we have about 2 weeks before she is fully over it. I have to keep suctioning her nose and throat out which she really doesn't like. When she was in the hospital they had to do a deep suction every few hours where they stuck this tube in her nose down to her throat to suction her out. Anyway, we are so glad to be home (I hate trying to sleep in a hospital) and we are very thankful that Addison is on the mend and that she didn't have something more serious.
