Party Time - Excellent!

Ok, so the post title really dates me. And some of you young'uns out there probably don't have a clue why. Zac's Birthday is on Sunday and we had a party for his friends today at our neighborhood pool. Thank goodness for the pool and a summer birthday 'cause I don't know what to do at a 10 year old boy's birthday party. Can we have it at the pool every year? To see all the party pictures click here.

Flashback Friday - Meet The Family

David, Roy, Heather, Allyson, Heidi and Steve

This picture was taken not long after Steve and I became engaged. For Christmas I surprised him with a trip to St. Louis to see his family. This was the first time I met them. This was taken at Christmas 1993. That is a heck of a long time ago.

And Another Year Begins

Zac, Emily and Aubrey on Zac and Emily's first day of school

Emily

Zac

This is "The Group" we walk to and from school with each year

Monday Morning Musings

Woo Hoo!!! First day of school has come at last!

Since when did my son have a fashion opinion.

Since when were shirts with any type of collar or buttons considered "DORK" shirts?

I guess I get to go school shopping for Zac all over again. Either that or convince him that "dork" is the new black.

My sister was sad and crying when she sent her son to school today. Should I feel guilty about the little happy dance I did?

I have had a headache since Wednesday. It is getting rather annoying.

I would KILL for some Tex-Mex right now. Too bad there isn't a good restaurant for oh, 1,200 miles or so from here.

I get to go to the store today and only take 2 kids with me!

I could take a nap today if I wanted to.

I just looked at the clock. I only have 2 hours left before I have to pick up the kids. Today went by REALLY FAST. Apparently I can only do one - take a nap or go to the store with 2 kids.

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Below is a picture of my grandma and grandpa

Happy Birthday! I love you.

Flasback Friday - I ♥ The 80's

Kay, Kristy, Farrah, Allyson
OK, so again I must say that I think Farrah looks so much like Aubrey. Steve thinks so too so I know I am not just imagining it. I love this picture because of all the cultural icons in it. Like the macrame thing hanging down, mom's rose colored glasses, the orange walls, the spelling thing (I can't remember what it is called) Farrah is playing with, the Simon game I am playing, the Strawberry Shortcake pillowcase, the Holly Hobby pillowcase under Kristy.

The Desperate Countdown Has Officially Begun

I'M GOING CRAZY

I'M GOING CRAZY

I'M GOING CRAZY

I'M GOING CRAZY

Have you ever been in a situation that could be a little stressful and crazy but you manage to deal with it, no problem?

And then you realize the end is in sight.

And all of a sudden what you were able to handle just fine suddenly becomes unmanageable.

Like you just can't possibly stand one more minute of it.

Right now, Monday, and the start of school is so very

Who Knew???

It has been so long since I have done anything
C R E A T I V E
I didn't know I still had it in me. I bought the stuff to make these pictures almost a year ago, finally made them a few weeks ago and my DARLING and ever so SEXY husband just hung them today. Before you get all excited about what a good artist I am, you must know that it is scrapbook paper I decoupaged onto artist canvas. I got the canvas on sale so each picture cost me about $5.

High School Re-View

Because of our TRAUMA last week with the skull fracture and all, we had to postpone our

High School Musical 2

viewing PAR-TAY. We had it this afternoon. It was fun. Except the last 40 minutes or so when everyone was running berserk (so that's how you spell it) through the house and I am sitting on the couch going, "doesn't anyone want to watch the movie????"

OK, so don't laugh at me but I saw this shirt at the store today and I HAD to have it:

Steve said I was such a nerd when he saw me wearing it, but then he said I was a pretty cute nerd so I guess it is ok.

This is the gang eating pizza and actually watching the movie.

Rock Star - Losing My Religion

OK Kristy, lets see if this one does it for you:

Monday Morning Musings

○ On Friday when I realized that the kids only had one more week of summer left before they start school, I was so SAD.

○ Today when I realized that the kids only had one more week of summer left before they start school, I was so EXCITED!

○ Does anyone else wonder where SUMMER went? I feel like it just started.

○ I am going to have to get back in the ROUTINE of getting everyone up and ready in the morning. Great.

○ Did you know they changed the words to the PRIMARY song from "Mother knows just what is right each and every day" to "I want to do just what is best each and every day"?

○ Why is it that I can be so ORGANIZED in everything (church callings, PTA president) but my own life?

○ Why is it that I want to CLEAN and organize every house I walk into except my own?

○ Farrah finally did her Sunday CONFESSIONS yesterday and I have to say people, they were pretty BORING. I need the good DIRT.

○ I just found out that the annual Stake Primary TALENT SHOW is next month. I am trying to figure out what I can plan for that day so we have to miss it. Oops...did I say that out loud?

Every time I look at Kristy's blog I get that song STUCK in my head. Thanks Kristy. Could you please do a new first post?

Saying HELLO To Our Future And To Our Checkbook

Da Da Da Dahhhh!!! It is official. Steve and I signed away life and limb and the future of our children last week. And I am here to announce, on the record, that we are building a house. Woo Hoo! It is something Steve has always wanted to do, to design and oversee the construction of his own home. We have been dreaming about it for years, and now here we are. On the cusp of our future. The jumping off point. We spent months looking and looking for the perfect place to plant our family for the rest of our lives. And we weren't having any luck. Then we talked to the kids and decided that we were going to fast and pray to find the right place. We gave the kids the option of fasting and they all opted in favor. That very day we found our little slice of Heaven right here on Earth. We have had the property on hold for a few months now and our financing just came through last week. So we are now the official owners of that little piece of land that will grow our family. Steve has designed us a wonderful home and we can't wait to start building. Only we have no choice but to wait. It is a brand new phase of a new subdivision and they are still putting in all the "stuff" that they have to put in before we can build. But hopefully sometime in the next few months we will get to BREAK ground and be that much closer to our dream.

Fractured

For a Healthy 8 month old, Addison sure has spent a lot of time hanging out in hospitals. When she was born she had jaundice so I didn't have to take her to the hospital, but I did have to take her to the doctors office every day for over a week to have blood taken out of her foot. Then in January we had to spend a few days in the hospital because she had RSV. And again last month when we found out she shouldn't be eating strawberries. And most recently, this week when we had to take her back because of a rather large tumble she took off the bed.

On Tuesday morning I was in my room putting on makeup and Addison was sitting on the floor beside me playing. Her sweet big brother who loves her so very much picked her up to play with her. He sat her on the middle of the bed and then turned around to turn the fan on. Those few seconds were all it took for the little get around girl to fall off the bed. Zac and I both had our backs to her so we didn't see it happen. We both rushed over to pick her up. She was crying, naturally. My bed is really high, it comes up to my waist and we have a hardwood floor in our room so I knew she had to have hit hard. I looked her over and didn't see any bumps or anything. She cried for less than a minute and acted like nothing had happened the rest of the day, so I though that miraculously she had come through it pretty undamaged.

Later that afternoon we drove to my parents house. It was Kristy and her kids last night in town and we were having a big family dinner. When we got there I was sitting on the couch and Addison was on my lap. I was looking at the back of her head and noticed a big bump. I felt it and it was very smushy. I called her doctors office and they said to bring her in so they could look at her. At this point I was about an hour away from my doctors office and they closed in 45 minutes. They told me to take her to an instacare nearby my parents house which I did.

The doctor there gave her an exam and said that she looked fine to him. He said the smushy swelling was bleeding, like a bruise. He said that there was a chance that she could have a fracture or bleeding on the brain but that we couldn't tell unless she had a CAT scan. He said that he didn't feel that was necessary because for the injury to be that bad she would be acting like it hurt. He said that if they did a CAT scan on every kid that bumped their head they would be doing them all the time. I felt like he was right. She was acting fine.

Well on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning she was acting a little fussy. This is a child who is NEVER fussy. I thought maybe her head was hurting, you know how things sometimes hurt worse a day or two after. Well on Thursday afternoon she was sitting in her highchair and I was feeding her. I was looking at her and thinking something didn't look right. That is when I noticed that her ear that is on the side where her bump is was was sticking way out from her head and was hanging lower than her other ear. I started freaking out. I called her doctors office and they told me to take her to the emergency room. Well, she ended up getting the CAT scan after all. And we found out that she has a skull fracture. My sweet little tiny baby. I was so upset and so mad at myself for not taking her right to the hospital when she first fell. They said that it is blood and fluid causing the swelling and that it usually gets worse on the 2nd or 3rd day and then starts getting better.

They wanted to keep her in the hospital overnight for observation. That was a fun night. When we were there in January we had a private room. This time we got to share one. Stupid. Who makes a children's hospital and puts shared rooms for infants in it? They came in every 4 hours to check Addison's vitals. The baby in the room with us got his checked every hour. We were right outside the nurses station and as nice as the nurses were, they were also very inconsiderately loud the entire night. When someone would come in to check on the kids they would leave the door open which let in horrible nasty light and loud loud nurses talking. Oh, and the baby in the room with us, his oxygen level kept dropping so the nurses kept coming in to check that. And they and the mom in the room would just talk right out loud. And the baby kept waking up to eat and he would cry and the mother would try and soothe him and once again she would do it very loudly. At one point they woke us up and all four of us in the room were awake and watching TV from about 3:30-5:00 am. Addison and I probably got about an hour of sleep total in 20 minute increments. Several people called me the next morning to see how things were and how we slept. I said not so great but couldn't explain why because I was still in the room with our roommates. So now you know why.

Thankfully we got to leave the next morning. I was so glad to get out of there. They said that Addison looks fine. The neurosurgeon said that they see this type of thing 4 or 5 times a week. It should heal on its own. Everyone at the hospital kept saying that they couldn't believe that she had a skull fracture because she was acting so fine and being so cute and friendly. They just want me to keep her at home for a few days and just let her have some quite time (sure no problem, have you ever been to my house?). We have to be really careful and make sure she doesn't bump her head on anything (easier said than done, she is at the stage where she does not want to sit still for more than 2 seconds). If the swelling gets worse or if she starts acting different I have to take her back in for another CAT scan. They also said there won't be any long term effects from this type of accident. I want to believe them, but I also want to know how they know, ya know? That is one thing I am worried about.

Hopefully this will be the last time she will have to go to the hospital for a while.

Flashback Friday - Air Heads

Allyson & Farrah

So I chose this picture for my flashback so you can all see how nasty I used to look. Ok, really I chose it because when I was going through pictures I came across this one and I thought, "Oh, my-Farrah looks so much like Aubrey in this picture." What do you think?

Pioneer Trek

Steve was at our stake youth conference for most of last week. They did a pioneer trek. He went as the support group. He got to drive around on his ATV and make sure everyone had water and set up and move the base camp each day. It wasn't an easy trek as you can see from the middle picture. They spent 3 full days hiking up and over a mountain. This is the second trek he has gone on with our stake. He feel very blessed to be a part of it. He is in the top picture on the bottom left. Isn't he cute??? No, seriously - look at how CUTE he is.

Monday Morning Musings

Why does melted cheese taste so different from unmelted cheese?

Why can't I stop singing the songs from High School Musical?

Why am more excited for the debut of High School Musical 2 than my kids are?

Do you ever get tired of having to get up every morning and take a shower and put on your makeup and fix your hair? Wouldn't it be nice to just not have to do that for one day?

Ok so I didn't do it last Wednesday until 4:00 in the afternoon and it was really depressing so I know I need to do it, I just don't want to do it. But I am about to go and do it right now. Just so you know.

Is Farrah ever going to do her Sunday confessions again?

Is Farrah ever going to blog again?

This is the song that has been going through my head now for 6 days, 14 hours 32 minutes and 12 seconds:

No, no, no, nooooooooooo
Stick to the stuff you know
If you wanna be cool
Follow one simple rule
Don't mess with the flow, no no
Stick to the status quo

Rock Star MIA

So if you know me very well, you know that I love American Idol. But the summer months that go by with out any American I. seem to last forever. So 2 years ago when a show called Rock Star came out in July, I was so excited. The first season was called Rock Star INXS and it featured the band INXS, who I LOVED in high school, looking for a new lead singer. I LOVED this show. It was like American Idol on steroids. It was like watching a concert in my living room every week. Well the next summer it was called Rock Star Supernova and it featured a brand new band with Tommy Lee looking for a lead singer. So this year when summer began its approach I anxiously waited for my show to come back. And I waited.....and waited.....and searched the Internet......and waited......and.......NOTHING. I am so sad and I am missing it. So I was watching some of my favorite performances from past episodes and it made me feel so much better. So I felt that I must share the joy.

This performance is from the first season and is by J D Fortune, who later won the coveted seat as lead singer for INXS. You might recognize this song "Pretty Vegas" because it was released by INXS shortly after J D won. What you might not know is that this song was born on this show. The contestants were given music composed by a member of the band and they had to write their own lyrics. This is the song J D wrote.

Enjoy! Oh, and look for more of my favorite performances to come.

Make Your Own D#*& Dinner

Kristy and I took our mom out to lunch yesterday for her b-day (why I was not at the park again-I was not sleeping). Then we went shopping. We found these cute boxed postcards and we each bought a set. These are just a few of my favorites.

Cute Cousins

Addison and Owen

Aubrey, Emily and Tia

Kristy and Tia and Owen are here visiting us. We have been having fun with them. Today we spent the day at the Children's Museum. This picture was taken on Saturday when Papa turned the sprinklers on and got the girls all wet. They had a great time playing in the water.

Monday Morning Musings - Better Late Than Never

Why am I always so tired?
Club Crackers are evil
It's a good thing I don't know which child left the fridge in the garage open for more than 24 hours. I just had to throw away 8 gallons of milk, 1 gallon of OJ, 5 lbs. of hamburger meat and 3 dozen eggs.
Now I have to go to Sam's again
Remember when I only had one child and I thought I was so busy then. What in the HECK was I so busy doing?????
It would be nice to be that busy again.
The shortest lived victory? Finishing the laundry.
What's with all the ants all of the sudden?
Remember when our kitchen used to be these colors?

Rumor Has It

I am here to clear up any misconceptions once and for all. Well at least for today.

So I missed park day this week. It just so happens that park day fell on the same day that my dear friends and I got up and went to the temple at 5 am. And it was also the same day that my sister flew in, her plane scheduled to arrive 10 minutes before we were supposed to be at the park. And I, being the person put in charge of picking her up.

Now I have heard from about 100 people that they missed me at the park (it is so nice to be loved) and that they heard that I went to the temple at an unreasonable hour so they all figured I was sleeping. (Ok, it was more like 3 people. But figuring the amount of people who were actually at the park, that is a lot.)

OK

Hello

Now I realize that SOMEONE (who shall remain nameless) came to my house a few weeks ago at 9:15 and I was still in my PJ's and she told everyone it was 11:00. But still people.

Granted, I have been known to still be in PJ's at 10 or 11 from time to time. FROM TIME TO TIME. But it isn't because I am just lying around in bed eating chocolate cake. I do have a baby who wakes up between 6:30 and 7:00 to eat EVERY MORNING.

On days that I still have my PJ's on when it is 10 am or so it is usually because I have fed a baby, made the other kids breakfast, done a few loads of laundry, looked something up on the computer for Steve, posted on my blog, loaded the dishwasher, fed a baby again, looked at the clock and realized I am about to take the kids swimming in an hour anyway. So why get dressed now?

Now the plan was this: my sister was going to call me when she got off the plane so that I could come and pick her up. I figured I would pick her up and we would go to the park for a little play time and to eat lunch. Now at this point I have to be honest and say that I didn't actually pick her up even though I was locked and loaded and standing by for the call. My mom was running a little late to work that morning and was passing the airport just at the same exact time my sister was getting off the plane. So she picked her up and I was at home waiting for her to get to my house so we could go to the park. When she got to my house I found out that she and her children had been up since 2:45 am our time. So they were not really in the mood for the park. Therefore we just stayed at my house and ate.

So the point of this whole big old story is: I am sorry I missed park day and I am not as

LAZY

as some people think. At least this week I wasn't.

So there!
