Schmid Happens - Day 3: Memory Grove, Temple Square and The Pie

On Wednesday, July 2, we went to downtown Salt Lake.  Our first stop was Memory Grove.  It is a beautiful park that has monuments for Utah Soldiers for all the different wars.

The Memorial House in Memory Grove was open for tours that day.  They also had fun activities for the kids to do there.  Some of the kids opted to stay behind and do the activities while the rest of us explored the monuments.  I hear Addy made this gumdrop structure all by herself.  This is a skill she gets from her father.

We enjoyed a picnic lunch in the park.

While we were eating, some missionaries walked by.  We asked them to share a spiritual thought with us.

After we left Memory Grove, we headed for Temple Square.  Addy hitched a ride with Grandpa.

The wall around Temple Square.  Thomas Sunderland Hawkins, Steve's 3rd Great Grandfather on his mother's side, worked to build this wall when he first immigrated to Salt Lake from England.  He is the kids 4th Great Grandfather.

After leaving Temple Square we went across the street to the Church History Museum.  My girls headed straight for their favorite exhibit and this is where they stayed the entire time we were in the museum.

We have two aspiring artists in the family, Emily and Meagan.

Mike getting in on the dance action.

And Spencer.

And then everyone got a little dance crazy.  Sheila, Lisa, Amanda and Allyson.  We all decided we NEED one of these dresses.  They are so comfy and they make you feel beautiful and they would be awesome to clean the house in.

After we left the museum we headed toward the U for dinner at The Pie.

Handy, I just happened to have an array of Sharpie markers in my purse for such an occasion as this.

Mmmm, mmmm...My very most favorite pizza EVER!  Xtreme Veggie!

It was a long, fun, exhausting day.  We headed home and played games and poor Steve went back to work.  He was working on a night job this week so every night around 9:30 he had to leave to go to work.

Emily gave Grandpa a new hair style.

Schmid Happens - Day 2: ATVs, Extended Family and Coyotes

On Tuesday, July 1st, we took the ATVs up the canyon and spent the day.  We found a lovely picnic site and roasted hot dogs for lunch.  Everyone took turns riding.  Those who weren't riding hung out and played games.

When Sheila was in Idaho, she bought treats for all the kids.  The girls got lip suckers, Meagan got a flower sucker, and the boys got chocolate covered bugs and suckers with bugs in them.

Dave loved riding on the ATVs.  Whenever there was an open seat on the back of one, he was there!

There were berries growing on the bushes around us.  That naturally lead to an all out berry war.

Zac found someone's secret stash in the bushes by our picnic table.

This may or may not be a picture of  Zac sitting on the ATV in the back of the truck on the way down from the canyon.

Mike always was the rebel.  Some things never change.  Drinking Pepsi whilst donning a Coke shirt!  Scandalous!

That night Uncle Harold and Aunt Connie and  Aunt Callie and Uncle Marley came by for a visit.  Harold and Callie are Steve's mom's siblings.  Steve's mother passed away before Steve and I met.

After dinner, a dance party ensued.
I may or may not have participated.

More Farkle.  It's a family thing.  Emily just rolled 6 6's!!!!

The Dulaney's dog, Bobby, was on a leash in our back yard.  We could hear coyotes in the fields surrounding our house.  They were trying to lure Bobby out away from the house but she was tied up.  We moved Bobby to a secure location.  The boys brought out the night vision goggles and other things that they thought might be handy in dealing with a coyote problem.  They had fun trying to find the coyotes and they could see their eyes when the shined the flashlight into the field.  But unfortunately they were all in the fields with the horses and we didn't want a mishap so the coyotes got lucky and got away.
