Schmid Happens - Days 6-12: Goodbye's, All the Stuff in the Middle and Hello Again

Saturday July 5th was the day the Dulaney's left to return home to Missouri.  Ed and Josh drove down to Orem to pack up all their stuff from the event the day before.  Lisa and her girls packed up all their stuff at home.  And the cousins said goodbye.  Earlier in the week Emily and Meagan brought me this lovely Christmas tree.  We had grand plans for it, but it is still in my backyard as I type this.

That night Roy, Rhonda, Steve and I went to the temple.  Here is Zac helping grandpa get ready.

The sunset as we were leaving the temple.

On Sunday the Kentucky Schmids and the Missouri Schmids went to church with us.  Reagan and Aubrey had matching skirts and shirts.  The funny thing is whenever their fathers get together, they always have matching clothes too.  On Monday morning the Kentucky Schmids left for Idaho.  Spencer is going to BYUI in September and they took a tour and then went to visit some of the lovely country up there.

I also set out on an adventure Monday morning!  I had the awesome opportunity to go to girls camp for 3 days with these lovely ladies!
 And these!

Steve picked me up Wednesday night and brought me home.  Thursday morning my mom and I dropped off my sister Lauren and Steve's brother David for the Special Needs Mutual Pioneer Trek.  They had a fun time.  Click here for a news article about the event.

That evening Roy, Rhonda, Steve and I had the opportunity to go to the temple again.

On Friday, July 11th, we went to see America the Movie.  It was so good!  We were in a completely sold out theater and everyone clapped and cheered at the end of the movie.
We enjoyed  gelato and a fountain show after the movie.

I was looking at these two wondering how on earth I came to have teenagers.

And then low and behold, look who we ran into!  Kentucky Schmids returned from Idaho!  They were going to try to make it to the movie with us, but they may or may not have witnessed a shooting which put them behind.  They ended up in another movie.  We all went home together.

After Emily gave Zac a piggy back ride, of course.

Schmid Happens - Day 5: Independence Day

Friday, July 4th, 2014.  Steve's family grew up doing reenacting.  It is a family tradition that his sister Lisa, her husband Ed and their family have continued, along with Steve's dad and step mom.  They always have so much fun and I've always wished we could do it with them so my kids could experience it.  There was a group in Orem Utah that was putting on an event for Independence Day and they invited my brother-in-law Ed to come from Missouri to participate.  We decided to forgo our usual 4th of July parade and head south for the event.  We LOVED it!  We have decided we have a new family Independence Day tradition.  What better way could we spend the day than learning about the origins of our country!
Meagan brought an extra dress for Emily to wear and Emily left early with the Dulaney family for the event and she stayed until they left that night.  She loved it and wants to do reenacting more!  The girls let the younger girls wear their skirts.

Aubrey and her counterpart were selected as spies for the Revolution.
Here they are receiving their first assignment.

Part of the event was at "Ellis Island".  We each were given a name of a real person who immigrated through Ellis Island.  Then we went through all the steps for citizenship.

On the way home we stopped for pizza.  Then we went to see fireworks.
