Hola! Me Llamo Aubrey.

WOO HOO!
I'm so excited (and I just can't hide it). I just got home from picking the kids up from school. I opened my mailbox and there was great news in there. When I was trying to find out about registering Aubrey for Kindergarten next year in the school in our new neighborhood, I found out that they have a Spanish program. It is only available for one Kindergarten class. You have to fill out an application to get accepted. I your child is accepted they will remain in the same class for the entire K-6 grades. For 1/2 the day their class is in English. The other 1/2 of the day is completely in Spanish. The teacher doesn't speak in English to them at all. By the time they leave the program in 6th grade they are fluent Spanish speakers. We just got the letter of acceptance in the mail today. So our little Aubrey will be speaking Spanish. And it will be her responsibility to teach it to the rest of the family. Do you think that is too big of a burden to put on a 5 year old? Ole!

That is pretty cool, but it scares me. What if they don't pick it up fast enough and they can't learn for half the day because they don't understand. I am sure that is why they start it in kindergarten though.

Interesting. I will love to see how this works out.

very cool. Congrats. What a great way to learn a different language. I would have loved to have something like that when i was younger. Yeah for aubrey

They have that program here but it is in french. All my friends keep telling me i should apply for it. It starts in 1st grade-but i don't know how long we will live in this area so...?

They have been doing it for I think 4 years now so I am sure they know what to do. They also evaluate the kids as they go along and if need be they are removed from the program. This is the best time for her to start learning a new language because kids pick up on things like that fast. Plus, that's how kids who move here from Mexico learn English. Kristy, I say go for it. You never know and if you move, you move.

That is so neat! I would love for my kids to be bilingual! Spanish is such a growing language here in the United States what a great thing to do for her!

I would definitely try to get my girls in this, if it was an option here. Learning a second language does nothing but help them. I think it is smart. My cousins who live in Germany have a similar thing to learn English. I think it is country wide though.

What a great program, face it, we would all be better off knowing how to speak spanish. When Jen comes home she'll have little Aubrey to talk to!

That is so amazing! I would love Sydney to be multi-lingual. I feel like people outside of America often take learning 2 or more languages as if it is just ordinary, so it is cool that they are providing opportunities here!

That is exciting! When we were in Mexico, Priscila was in that same kind of a program. 1/2 the day with the English teacher and 1/2 day with the Spanish teacher. I wish they had a program like that here. Duhh! We are in Texas, why don't they have a program like that?! I would love for Priscila, Brandon, and Joey to be able to learn in Spanish. Instead, I am going to have to do it over the summer. Maybe I will send them to their aunt in Mexico. That would be fun - FOR ME!! Just kidding!!
