Steve's sister Heather and her family came to visit us the first week of July. Their last name is Hobbs. I don't know if they know this, but our family, being that we like Lord of the Rings and all, pronounce the plural of their name as Hobbitses. So the Hobbitses got in on Sunday night from Missouri. We left first thing Monday morning to go camping in Manti Canyon. It was a great start to a great week. First thing we did when we arrived at our campsite was break out the food. We were all starving.
The Hobbitses dad is named Steve. Which can cause some confusion when there are two dads around named Steve. In the past, we have called my Steve Frank. I'm not sure I remember how that nickname came about. But my kids and I were watching a show about a week before they came, and one of the guys on it was called Redneck. So we decided that when the Hobbs were here we would call this Steve Redneck.
After getting everything unloaded and setting up the tents, Redneck started chopping wood. All the kids wanted to chop too.
Zac and Tyler whittling.
After luncheoning and chopping, half the group went on an ATV ride.
The other half of us went exploring.
This is the beginning of what turned into 2 full days of damming, channeling and filtering this little creek that ran into the lake. It kept all of the kids occupied for the remainder of the trip.
The girls found some fishing line and hooks and Aunt Heather helped them make fishing poles.
On our way back to camp we saw a deer, this was just a few feet away from our camp site.
And this is pretty much what I did for most of the trip. I kicked back in my lounge chair and read a book. It was absolutely fabulous. This is the view I had.
We played our official family game. Farkle. Steve's family has been playing this since he was little and we play it every time we get together.
It takes forever to play Farkle with Addy. We had to limit her amount of shakes and here she is blowing on her dice. It took her like 20 minutes just to roll one hand.
That evening Steve, Heather and I went on a ride.
It was absolutely beautiful and it was even a little bit chilly.
This picture doesn't even begin to do it justice, but this was an absolutely gorgeous sunset. It was so beautiful and quiet and peaceful on our ride.
It looks like Sierra is licking Emily's knee in this picture, but they are really several feet apart.
