Dulaneys Do Utah Day 4: Wednesday July 11, 2012

On Wednesday we loaded up the wheelers and headed for the mountains.  We spent the whole day just hangin' out in the mountains and riding ATV's.  It was almost midnight that night before we made it home and  fell exhausted into our beds.

Zac was making me so mad standing here.  You can't tell from the picture but he is standing on a 40 ft vertical drop.  I believe my exact words to him were, "ZAC!  We just canceled our health insurance so if you fall, you are just going to have to bleed out!"  I was only kidding really.  Kind of.

Zac taught everyone how to make his favorite campfire treat.  Roasted Starburst.

And this is where it happened.  We were quietly sitting around the table playing Uno while all of our men folk were out on the trail.  This old tie dye wearing hippy came and starting yelling at us and threatening to call the Sheriff on us and make us vacate the premises immediately.
Apparently there was some confusion on how much we had paid and what we had paid for to use this site for the day.  He would not even give us a chance to explain or figure out where the problem was or to even fix it.  He just started yelling and screaming and calling us liars and telling us he was calling the Sheriff and we were going to have to pack up and leave right then with all of our guys out on the trail.  He was mad at us for still being there because we told him we were just using the site for the day (all 4 times he came up to our site during the day)(There was only one other campsite in the whole place being used) and he told us that the day use time was up and blah, blah, blah.  He was psycho.  Seriously.  He did have a New York accent and a NY Yankees sticker on the back of his truck so I'm assuming that explains his hospitable ways.

What bothers me the most about the whole thing is that he came when all of the guys were gone and it was just 2 women and 4 girls.  We weren't a group of loud teenagers having a party and drinking.  We were calmly sitting at the table playing Uno.  So he pretty much put a damper on our little gathering.  We put away the game and started packing up our stuff and were all ready to leave as soon as the boys got back.

Oh well!  It was still a fantastic day and the angry old hippy with ATV issues (I really think he didn't like us because of the ATV's - he came up to our site several times during the day to tell us to drive them slowly through the camp, even though we hardly ever drove them in the camp and we were the only ones there for the majority of the day and WE WERE DRIVING SLOW!)  At least we have a fun story to tell now.

Dulaneys Do Utah Day 3: Tuesday July 10, 2012

We left the house early on Tuesday morning and headed to the Trax station.  We rode the train into downtown and spent the whole day there seeing the sights.  Steve had to work that morning and met us downtown that afternoon.  Our first stop: The Church History Museum.  Here are the kids trying out bunks that are like the bunks on ships that LDS Converts came to America on.

Lunch Break!

Next we headed over to Temple Square.  In the South Visitors Center Addy made some friends from Australia.  She showed them around the visitors center and told them all about everything they saw.  Her tour with them lasted a good 30 minutes or so.

In the Legacy Theater watching Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration.  It is an awesome movie and if you click on it it will take you to a link where you can watch the movie.  I highly recommend it.  If you aren't a member of our church and want to know more about our history, this is a great place to start.

Taking a tour of the Beehive House

Last Stop: The Conference Center.  Steve is talking to Addy about this picture of Ammon.  We had just read this story in the Book of Mormon a few weeks ago.

It had been a very long and very hot day and the kids were exhausted.

Aubrey trying on Zac's glasses on the train ride home.  The train was pretty full on the way home and Zac and Josh had to share seats with this sleeping guy in the background.  He was sound asleep when we got on the train.  He was asleep for most of our ride with him.  When he woke up it was pretty funny to watch him.  All of the sudden he was surrounded by kids and he had no idea how they got there.

Zac and Josh.  Too bad I didn't get sleepy head in this picture.

Just checkin' a little e-mail on the ride home.

All of our good snacks were depleted and we were down to carrots.  The kids finished off the whole bag on the train ride home and Addy didn't even complain that there was no ranch.

Mormons are all over the news these days.  To learn more about us and what we believe, or to request a free copy of The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, click here.  To take your own at home tour of Famous and Historic Temple Square, click on the links I included above of each of our stops.
