I am trying to talk Steve into going before Congress and saying something along these lines, "I am here on behalf of all Concrete Stainers, and I was wondering, since our economy is in the crapper, umm, could I get some money from the government, which government I know wasn't set up for this purpose and all, but uhhh, well (this is where they whiny 5 year old voice comes in) you gave the banks some money and it's not fair if you don't give the concrete stainers money too and so, well, if you don't give me money too, then I won't play with you anymore!" (huff, puff, arms fold across chest and right foot stomps). I think it's ridiculous what our government is turning into. I can't even watch the "news" anymore.
Steve and two of his friends do this thing every week where they each make their picks of who they think will win the football games. It is some very serious thinking they do before they make their selections. Which players are out this week, this team has won this many games, blah, blah, blah. So I thought it would be fun for me to make my picks too. This is how I do it. I don't like to be biased by others choices so I don't look at the paper. Steve calls out the teams playing and it takes me about 1/2 a second to tell him who I think will win. I, with my vast knowledge about football, couldn't even tell ya what team I picked to win 10 seconds after I picked them. Well, HA! HA! I always come within a point or two of the person who won their little boy game thing. Steve hasn't let me make my picks the last few weeks. Hmmmm, I wonder why that is?
I am not a foofy person. I never have been. Just ask my mother, who tried for my entire growing up years to make me that way. I just don't like foof. And I like to just get things done the easiest and fastest way possible. When it comes to my children's hair, it's no different. No foof, easy, fast. That is why I have shaved Zac bald for most of his life. And that is why I cut my girls hair short. But now, for some reason, my kids all feel like expressing their individuality and they won't let me do what I wanna do when it comes to their hair. They have all refused haircuts for months now. Finally on Saturday Steve and I told Zac that either I was going to shave him bald or I would take him somewhere to get his hair cut. We went and got it cut and he looks very handsome, indeed. Well for the past 2 days Aubrey has been begging me to braid her hair. So I broke down this morning. After receiving a tutorial from this blog, I mustered up as much courage as I could, armed myself with elastics, a spray bottle and a comb, and went to work. How bad of a mom would you think I am if I told you this is the first time I have braided one of my girls hair? Well, it was. And it was actually kind of fun. Here is the finished product.

Good job on the hair, that looks cute! A first timer?!? I think you are a pro!
My mom did my hair everyday when I was a kid: braiding, ponytails, curling, everything. My sister and I always had very "foofy" hair. Now my girls are lucky if I comb it. I have tried the other stuff, but I just can't do it. It looks worse than before I started. Thank goodness for headbands!!
You have now pulled way in front of me in the hair department. I blow-dried one girl's hair the other morning, but that's it.
Steel beam color vote: lacquer black. It will be shiny but it won't draw the eye and break up the view or overpower that fantastic railing like red would, althought I admit the red is very tempting. It's so great on the wall. I love the house pictures. Keep them coming!
What color are your door frames over there?
I agree with Steve on the beams. I think they will look great red!
Aubrey's hair is so cute. Makes me wish I had a girl to do her her. I wonder if Bart would get mad if I did Matty's hair in braids?
Also, it looks like you are going to need a MUCH taller tree next year.
Also, it is great to see you have doors on!
The door frames are a dark slate grey.
Thank you Eva A. I knew that there was a reason the red wouldn't look good and you made me realize it. That is a very grand sweeping room and you are right. If the beam was red your eyes would go up. Stop. And then go up again. Rather than going woosh....right up to the top. Sorry Farrah. You and Steve are wrong.
Why don't you continue w/ the dark grey slate on the beams?
I was kind of thinking that, Alicia. It will still probably be unpainted this time next year knowing us.
Steve's problem when I say grey is he thinks we already have way too much grey already. I like the grey and figure we will decorate with color and the house can be a neutral background.
Welcome back to blogging! :) I'm loving all the picture updates...the house looks great. I like the beam how it is, but it may not look the same in person, does it need to be painted? I can't tell. But I vote no on red too.
Hair pic is darling....wish my girl liked having her hair done! She runs when she sees the brush!
That's not a house, you guys built an office building

Not grey or silver because it will make the railing seem too massive and cold. Red would give it a pop of color but may be too much and too high. I like the black laquer. You could use color in other areas.
Good luck with the decorating this is the fun part.
