Bad Hair Day

This post is dedicated to my dear husband. He is a WONDERFUL husband and father, not so much a great hairstylist. Darling, this is to help you understand why I make such a big deal about how the girls hair is brushed after they take a bath and go to bed. You are not here in the morning when they wake up so you don't realize how much fun it is to try and fix this (see above photo). I know you are not so experienced in the art of hair brushing (see photo below) which is why I have been so understanding in the past. However, do you remember last night when I was feeding Addison and you were putting kids in bed and I asked you to brush Aubrey's hair a little better before she went to bed so her hair would look decent in the morning? Do you remember saying that it was brushed just fine and it would be fine in the morning? I just wanted you to see what fine looks like. I ♥ U!!!

Summer Lovin'

We have a pool in our neighborhood that we join every year. It is so much fun. We go swimming several times a week and the kids love it. Since it is in our neighborhood and since we live in Utah where everyone knows their neighbors, there is always someone there we know. The kids love it because they get to play with their friends and I love it because I get to talk to my friends.

Copy Cat

Ever since my sister Farrah put pictures of the ice cream cookie sandwiches she made on her blog, I have been CRAVING them. So last night for Family Home Evening Emily made these yummy ice cream cookies. We changed them up a bit so we could use the ingredients we had on hand. They were soooooo good.

Happy Fathers Day!

“Any man can be a father,
but it takes a special person to be a dad”
This picture was taken when I was 18 years old and my dad
came with me to help me move to Utah.
Thank you dad for all you have done for me. Thank you for always being there to take me and my friends anywhere we wanted to go. I remember one night close to Halloween when you took a whole group of us around to Haunted Houses for hours. Thank you for always being there to take me shopping for a new outfit for a dance. Thank you for ironing my shirts at a minutes notice so I could go out. Thank you for teaching me. I remember one time when Farrah and I were fighting and you brought out your scriptures to read to us and teach us why it was so important for us not to say we "hated" each other. That is still a lesson I carry with me today. Thank you for loving me and my children.

Steve and Roy

Roy, thank you for raising a wonderful son. He is a good man and a wonderful father and I know that it is because he has a good example to look to in you.

Aubrey, Emily, Zac and Steve playing football

Thank you Stephen for being such a wonderful father to our children. They love you more than anything and they get so excited when you come home from work. I love you.

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad's in my life. I love you all.

You Think You're A Princess Don't You

I have to share this little story. Just a minute ago I was passing by the kitchen. Emily and Aubrey were sitting at the table coloring together so sweetly. Emily sneezed and when she did she made the CHOO part of AH-CHOO go up into a really high octave. Aubrey said, "Why do you sneeze like that??? You think you're a princess don't you???" I couldn't help but laugh.

Ode To Joy #8 - Lead The Women Of The World

One of the quotes from the book "I Am A Mother" that stuck out in my mind the most is this one:

"If I were Satan and wanted to destroy a society, I think I would stage a full-blown blitz on women. I would keep them so distraught and distracted that they would never find the calming strength and serenity for which their gender has always been known." -Patricia Holland

"This tactic seems to be working, doesn't it? Many times the still, small voice must compete with the frenzied cries that claim we can have everything- and have it all, now. Today's culture is very much about instant rewards, measurables, if you will, and immediate gratification." -Jane Clayson Johnson

This quote made me really stop and think. How full do I pack my life? I am constantly running from one thing to the next. I don't leave any breathing room. If you look at my calendar it is full everyday. You couldn't fit one more thing in if you tried. Why? I don't know. That is something I have to figure out.

I really think Satan has issued a full-blown blitz on women. Just look at how women are portrayed in our society today. They are degraded, portrayed as mere objects. And sometimes it is easy to get caught up in it all. When you are bombarded on every side by images of women who are picture perfect, surgically enhanced, air brushed, with a sprayed on tan, anorexically thin, scantily clad....well that eventually starts to have an effect on you. Whoever you are.

As women living in the world today, we need constantly to be on guard. We need to slow down and not be so frazzled. I had never thought of that as being one of Satan's tools before. But it makes sense.

This is another quote from the book :

"It is not for you to be led by the women of the world; it is for you to lead the...women of the world, in everything that is praise-worthy, everything that is God-like, everything that is uplifting and that is purifying to the children of men."

-Joseph F. Smith

What a great call to women today. What a huge challenge for women today. What an important lesson for the women of tomorrow. The daughters we are raising today. What a great example we can be to them as righteous women and mothers in a world that has declared war on women and all that makes them sacred.

I Am A Mother

My dear friend Diana gave me this book for Mothers Day. I just finished reading it last week. It is one of the best books I have read. I strongly recommend it for anyone who is a mother or who is married to a mother or who loves a mother.
It is written by a Latter Day Saint woman who was the host of the CBS morning show a few years back. She gave up her career when she had kids and stayed home to raise her children. A lot of people thought she was crazy and it bothered her when she would go to social events and people would ask what she was doing now and when they found out they would say, "Oh, you're just a mom."
In her book she talks about how important being a mom really is and the impact it has on society. It really is an excellent book. Especially for those moms out there who feel like they really aren't making a difference day in and day out as they do the laundry and wash the dishes and all the things moms do everyday and then get to turn around and do it all over again tomorrow. I know, I have felt that way before.
Like I said, it is an excellent book and you MUST MUST read it. It is full of so many wonderful quotes. I marked my copy all up, there were so many things in it I loved. Thanks Diana!

The Sky Is Falling

So I have been wanting some nice lounge chairs to put on the deck that is off of our bedroom. My dear sweet husband bought me some very comfy ergonomic chairs to put out there the other day. We hadn't tried them out yet so when we got home from church on Sunday we thought we would give them a try. However, at that time of day our deck was in full sun. So we took them out front and put them under a tree. The kids took a blanket out and they were reading books and Steve and I were thoroughly enjoying our new chairs. Then all of a sudden I felt this big splash on my arm. I thought maybe Addison had spit up on me, so I looked. It wasn't Addison. It was big nasty bird poop. I started screaming and gave Addison to Steve and held my fist up to the tree cursing the bird who offered such an offense. I went inside to clean up and change shirts. On my way back out I was met by Steve who had just been pooped on himself. Once again not by the dear sweet baby in his arms (we call her the princess of poop and the queen of spitting up) but by our new friend living in our tree. He got cleaned up and went back outside and yes, ladies and gentlemen, he got pooped on once again. So we took our chairs inside, put them in the living room and watched a movie. And we didn't get pooped on the whole rest of the day....
