Monday Morning Musings - Potty Talk

I woke up one day last week to find this out my bathroom window:

Kinda made me feel like I was in Texas again. Not that I had these outside my bathroom window in Texas, but, well, you know.

Last week Emily was so happy to finally be able to have her friend Rylee come over and spend the day. She and Aubrey and Rylee had a blast together.

You know the thing about digital photography? It results in a booty load of pictures. Like, back when you used to use the camera where you had to buy film, and you could only take 24 pictures per roll, and to actually see your pictures, you had to get the film developed and that cost money. How many pictures did you used to take back then? I probably went through maybe a roll, roll and a half in a month at the most. Now? Hello! When I am doing a post, say, about Emily having a friend over, one photo would suffice, right? But I have to go through about 50 pictures to find the one I want to use. The good thing about it is, out of the 50 some odd pictures I took, I have a totally cute one of them running through the field.

Have you ever noticed how much more exciting Walmart can be when you are all by yourself? Because normally, Walmart, not my idea of great excitement. But the other day, I had to go shopping and Steve happened to be at home. So I went by myself. Usually, when I go to Walmart, I am one focused woman. This last time, I was like, "Oh, look at that. Eye liner. Let's spend 15 minutes looking at the eye liner. Oh, towels. I don't need any, but look at these nice towels. And they are on sale. Let's spend 15 minutes looking at those." Finally, after about 45 minutes I snapped myself out of my trance and realized that I hadn't even made it to the food section yet and Aubrey had a birthday party to go to and I had to buy the present and get it home to her. I didn't make it in time. She had to go to the party and I had to bring the present later.

This is the deal. Like, a month ago, I woke up with the need to potty train Addison. Just out of nowhere, I decided that I was going to potty train her right then. And she did GREAT for the first few weeks. Hardly any accidents. Life was good. But then I realized that the reason she didn't have accidents was because I asked her if she needed to potty every 30 minutes or so. After a few weeks, that gets really annoying. For everyone involved. She was tired of me asking, and believe me, I was tired of asking. I thought, ya know, she really needs to be able to recognize for herself when she needs to go. So I didn't ask as often. And we started having a few accidents here and there. Then about a week ago, she started getting really angry when I would ask her and she would say, "NO! I'M NOT GOING POTTY ANYMORE!" So then we started having accidents all the time. By last Friday, I was sick of it. I put her in a diaper on Saturday. She was not happy, but I told her she had to wear it until she started going on the potty all the time. So it was about half and half, going in the diaper and on the potty. But now, now as of today, she has totally reverted. She just pooped in her diaper. She has not pooped in her diaper or panties since I started the whole potty training thing. I was so mad. And she hasn't gone on the potty once today. -Calm down, you don't have to tell me it is my fault because I am sending her mixed messages. I am fully aware of my failures as a mother. So now I guess I am just going to have to go back to panties and asking every 30 minutes. The problem is, I just don't know if I have the energy or patience to do that right now. I guess it really doesn't matter though. We are back on the potty band wagon.

What are we doing this week for summer fun? You can refer to last weeks chart. We are doing the same this week.

When Sierra was potty training, she did great for the 1st week, then she spent a weekend with grandma. When she got home she had absolutely NO desire to go anywhere near the bathroom. Turns out she was taken in the bathroom every half hour or so, and she just got tired of it. She went back in diapers for almost a month--and totally reverted back. After almost a month maybe a month and a half, she got up one morning, took off her diaper and went potty...after that she had maybe 5 accidents and we were done. The boys...now that is another story. Be glad you only had one boy :)
