I know it's not Friday, but I had plans to do this post for the last two Fridays and it just didn't happen. Flashback Sunday just doesn't have the same ring to it, so just pretend. In October of 1999 we were in St. Louis visiting Steve's family. We made a quick day trip up to Nauvoo with some of his family. In 1999, the Nauvoo Temple had not been rebuilt yet. They had just announced earlier that year in the April General Conference that they were going to rebuild it. Across the street from the old temple grounds they had this model of the temple. At the time we only had one child- Zac, who had just turned two. If some of us look miserable in the flashforward picture, it is because we were. It was freezing!

The flashback picture above is what remained of the original Nauvoo Temple before they rebuilt it on that spot. If I remember correctly, the red circle of bricks is where the original baptismal font stood. The flashforward picture was taken right before we went into the Temple to do baptisms in that exact same spot. In the flashback picture the kids in the background that are in the flashforward picture are Zac in the orange jacket and Josh in the blue jacket and Uncle David in the dark blue. In the flashforward picture Josh and Zac are the 4th and 5th person from the left and David is on the right. I looked up the dates online and it says that the groundbreaking of the new Nauvoo Temple was on October 24, 1999, so it probably happened right after we were there.

The flashback is a picture of Zac (age 2) at Carthage Jail and in the flashforward you can see him (age 15) examining the bullet hole in the door at Carthage Jail.

I have examined these two pictures closely and in my expert opinion I have determined them to both having been taken on the exact same spot of ground. Look at the trees. Some of them are not the same because I'm sure some were removed and some new ones planted. But that big cluster of trees and the tree with the v are in both pictures. And notice the road and the white fence in the background of both pictures. Same spot! In the flashback picture you have Zac, Sierra, Josh, Tyler and Amanda. In the flashforward you have Aubrey, Reagan, Addy and Emily - a whole new crop of grandchildren who weren't even close to being born in the first picture.

When I was probably 12 or 13 my Granny Snow took me and 3 of my cousins on a fun trip that included a stop in Nauvoo. In the above picture you can see my cousin Shari and myself making rope. In the flashforward pictures you can see Addy and her cousin Reagan and Zac and his cousin Asher doing the same thing.
