We The People

It is only 27 days until our country and it's citizens elect a new president. What a ride it has been to get here. I think the next 27 days will be just as much "fun", if not more so.

I am curious as to who you will vote for, so I thought I would host my own little poll, right here. Who are you going to vote for? Take the poll to the right and let us know.

I am also curious as to why you are voting for the candidate of your choice. So please leave a comment on this post stating at least one reason why you have chosen to vote for your candidate.

I'm really curious and I really want you to be able to express your opinions. And that's all I want. Just your own reason why you have chosen to vote the way you are voting. Please don't comment on other peoples comments. And let's all just be nice. You can comment using your name or if you prefer comment anonymously.

It looks like no one is taking the bait.

I'll take the bait :-)

To be honest, I'm really not thrilled with ANY of the candidates. I'd have much preferred Hillary...and when left with Obama vs. McCain, I did consider both. Ultimately, my political views align most with Obama, but overall I'm not a huge fan of his. But the VP picks really sealed the deal for me--I do not think Governor Palin has the knowledge or political savvy to be the next president of the U.S. And while I'm no fan of Biden, I think he'd do a better job than she would were something to happen to the president.

Also, another major factor for me was the Supreme Court justices retiring--most likely we'll be losing three or four justices in the next few years, and because I would hate to see cases like Roe v. Wade overturned, etc., I'd prefer to have more liberal justices in the courtroom than conservative.

Just my 2 cents!

I'm really torn about who should be the next President. I think McCain would be a better Pres. but I can't stand Palin, she has NO background to be in that position. I think she is so irritating to listen to! She has never even worked in the senate!

As for Obama, I really liked him in the beginning, but I don't think he has any experience either, he never even sponsered a bill of his own while in the senate. I think Biden will do well though, he has experience and I think he is tough. If I could join McCain with Biden I'd have a purchase!

So as for know I don't know. I am going to watch the debate tonight and try to finalize my choice.

I am not terribly happy with our choices this time around, but I'm going to choose the lesser of two evils... I can't stand the idea of having someone in the oval office that doesn't put his hand over his heart for the national anthem and ahas publicly supported removing "one nation under God" from the pledge of allegience.
I recognize that Palin doesn't have any senatorial experience, but I don't think that is neccesarily a bad thing considering the damage congress has done in recent years. I would prefer someone with no experience to one with almost 40 years exp with amny voting decisions and sponsored bills I don't agree with. In case it isn't obvious at this point, I'll be voting McCain.

I am voting for Obama. The reason is really plain and simple for me: President Bush has just completely damaged so many things these past eight years and I have such little confidence in the Republican party right now, especially with the horrible choice they made when picking Palin.
I know this isn't what people want to hear but I am just being honest. Hearing people cheer for Bush makes me feel EXACTLY like Allyson feels when people cheer for Obama. And knowing that is somehow helpful because Allyson, I do understand how you passionate you feel about this... even though we are on different sides. I hope that makes sense and doesn't make you mad.
I need a change. I do not think McCain will bring that to our country.
I cannot have another four years like we have had in this country.

I am voting McCain. Mainly right now I am against gay marriage, even though I have gay friends. I support the issues the leaders of our church have with it. I need someone with a good moral compass even if he does not have all the qualities I prefer. Unfortunately we have to deal with what we are given to chose from.

OBAMA! I know that this a Republican site, but I too cannot stomach another person with George Bush ideas, but put that aside, I cannot stomach the negative politics that McCain and Palin are now desperately engaging in. Stick to the facts. Take the high road when campaigning. We will see tonight who sticks to the issues.

What is happening in this country, with the economy? Our country is almost bankrupt. We are indebted to the Chinese. Our gasoline prices are outrages. We are now engaged in two wars. Older Americans are finding it harder to retire. Our Medical Insurance Companies are price gouging us.I can go on and on. Americans will show us by voting, who the best man will be.

Anonymous said...

Oh yea, Obama and Biden are against gay marriage. Just because you vote Democrat, does not mean that you do not have conservative values. President Hinkley was considered a Roosevelt Democrat

Eva Aurora said...

Both candidates make me sick to my stomach. I would vote for Ron Paul but he's no longer running. At this point, I'm afraid I will throw up with indecision. I'm looking for a viable third-party candidate, though I'm a realist and know he/she will not be elected. I voted for Alan Keyes when he ran and I would vote for him again in a hearbeat. He supports getting the U.S. out of the United Nations, among other things I agree with.

The Nanny said...

I know we're not supposed to comment on other people's comments but I'm genuinely curious. Eva Aurora, why do you want the U.S. out of the U.N.? Really--I don't want to start a debate or cause any problems. I've just never thought of that before and am curious! :-)

I'm voting for McCain, but not very happy about either candidate. I'm settling with McCain. I feel like he's a carbon copy of Bush, so not much will change. However, I agree with the Supreme Court justice comment and I feel like Obama is very liberal as far as abortion and gay marriage are concerned. I supposed it will be all legalized one day, but I want to hold it off as much as possible. So, I guess morals play a big part in my decision. Better economy and gay marriage? Or same old story, but holding our ground morally. Hmmm...

I am in favor of McCain. I generally vote democrat but in this case, I am not staisfied with Obama at all...in fact it just scares me at the thought of him being president. One thing that really gripes me is the fact that people blame everything on Bush and he is not the only one responsible for this mess we are in. This whole housing crisis began in the Clinton administration. True, it wasn't fixed, but it was a democrat that created it to begin with. I do think Palin is an assett to the ticket. She may not have the experience as others may have, but she says it like it is. She has outstanding moral values and sorry, but I can't find anything wrong with that. I have serious issues with Obama talking about putting an end to earmarks, what a hypocrite (SP?) I also am highly disturbed by his backdoor entry into politics to begin with. As far as negative ad campaigns-that goes both ways. In fact I have seen more negative anti-republican ads than anything. Both candidates have very similar ideas on how to fix things, and both during debate have said the same things but just changed the words around a bit. They are promising the same things. McCain just has less experience to offer. Also, it really bothers me that 3 of the high ranking officials in this whole Fanny/Freddy mess are working for the Obama campaign. I am not even going to voice my opinion on the war, I will simply say that pulling all of our troops out immediately is not what needs to be done, they are doing good things over there.

Chris Mosley do you really mean to give the racial overtones that you are submitting?

Eva Aurora said...

to the nanny: getting out of the UN is just one of the things I dream about. Short answer as to why: it's inept, ineffective in doing any good whatsoever and surprisingly dangerous. It's a mouthpiece for communism and socialism, as well as world government. The US also pays big, big bucks to have other countries try to take us down a lot of notches. I also dream about abolishing the Federal Reserve (if it can be abolished, since it's not really a government agency)and returning to the gold standard, among other things.

Forgive me, Allyson. I won't take up any more space.

I feel racial overtones when people say they are scared to death to have Obama as president.

Really? Scared to death? Why?

Here are a few issues why I am voting for Obama.

- I agree with his plan on the Iraq War. I have a serious problem with innocent young lives being taken because of a lie the current administration fed us about Iraq. I agree with Obama's strategy to focus on Afghanistan, which is what we should have done all along. I can tell you I would be happy to have my sons fight in an honorable war that protects our country, but I would not we willing to make that sacrifice in vain.

- I agree with his health care plan. We currently pay almost $10,000 for health care through Bart's employer. And that is not the entire cost of the plan as his employer pays for a portion of it. On top of our premiums, our coverage still sucks! McCain's health care proposal would be detrimental to our family finances and I am sure many other Americans. It would probably leave us without coverage or at least adequate coverage. Obama's plan would give us and my family (currently my mother can not be covered because of pre-existing conditions) opportunities for health care coverage we didn't have before. All Americans deserves this right.

- I support his views on the environment, energy, education, and the economy. I can go into further detail but this is probably not the best forum for that. If you want to know more I am happy to discuss it with you.

- I think Obama is a good, moral person with family values.

- Finally, I do not have any trust for the Republican Party at this time because of the current administration.

- To clear something up. The Obama/Biden ticket does not support gay marriage as some people have stated here. Please do your research- this is a very important presidential race that cannot rest on one issue alone.

YIKES! We weren't supposed to comment on other peoples comments. Since Someone broke the rule I am going to comment on that persons comment only. I just can't not comment. I have been trying all day not to but I just have to say it. Kathy has stood up for me before and now I am standing up for her.

I just want to say that I have said many times that I am scared to have Obama as President and NEVER EVER NEVER ONCE has race EVER been a factor in my feelings. I know Kathy and I know that it isn't for her either.

I think that if someone read THAT into what she said, they could probably read just about anything into just about anything.

I think it is sad that someone was automatically able to draw that conclusion from her statement and I think that it is people like that who help to keep racial tensions alive in our country today.

Allyson said...

I want to thank everyone who commented and shared your opinion with us. I do appreciate and respect your opinions and I am glad you felt like you could share them here.

As you know, I am voting for McCain. I said from the very beginning that I wasn't thrilled with the choices we had for President. I don't agree with McCain on everything. I feel like I am choosing the person who I feel will do the least amount of damage to our country.

I do like Sarah Palin. I think she is real. I think she is honest. And I think she is a God fearing woman. And I think those are all good qualities to have in a candidate. I don't understand people saying that she doesn't have enough experience. It kills me. She has more executive experience than Obama, and he is running for PRESIDENT, not VP. I don't get how that is a valid arguement at all. Also, most of the time that Obama has been in the Senate, he has been running for President.

I don't like Obama and these are a few of the reasons I don't like him.

-I don't trust him. He says one thing one day and then when people get upset or act like they don't like it, he says something else. I think he is just saying what he thinks people want to hear. I think he is a smooth talker betty crocker. And I think most of what he says is BS. Sorry. It's my opinion.

Obama has all these plans to implement a ton of programs, yet he says that he is going to cut taxes for 90% of working Americans. I don't see how both are possible.

I think if Obama becomes president, our country will move just a little more down the path of Socialism.

I think Obama has too many ties to too many shady people and organizations. And shady is putting it very lightly. People who HATE our country. Bill Ayres. Rev. Wright. I don't understand why that's not a big deal to people. Cause to me....it kinda is. And I think it is pretty darn scary. He sat in Wrights congregation for TWENTY years. He listened to him spew hatred for our country and it's people for TWENTY years. I'm sorry, but if I went to a church where those were the kind of things being said over the pulpit, uhhhh, I wouldn't stay there for 20 seconds. When confronted about the whole thing Obama didn't say, Oh, yes he is a horrible person. He said he was like an uncle to him. It was only after everyone got into an uproar over that that he changed his tone. Why is that not a big deal to people? Why is his association with a terrorist not a big deal to people? Combine these with the images of him not covering his heart during the national anthem or his refusal to wear his flag pin, or the comments his wife has made and.....I'm not getting a real patriotic vibe from him.

There is a lot in the news lately about ACORN and their dishonest practices. Obama trained some of their volunteers when he was a community organizer.

Obama supports abortion, partial birth abortion, and he also voted against a bill in the Illinois Senate called the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002, which would have recognized any infant born alive after an abortion as a human being deserving legal protection, rather than being "taken to the Soiled Utility Room and left alone to die", as quoted from the nurse who brought the practice before the Senate. My church is very clear on their belief of this practice and I agree 100%. This is a quote from my churchs website: "Human life is a sacred gift from God. Elective abortion for personal or social convenience is contrary to the will and the commandments of God." To read more about my churchs stand on abortion copy and paste this link in your browser:

I think Obama is dishonest. I think he has too many questionable dealings in the past. I think he is naive. I think he would do a great deal of damage to our country if he were president.

I feel that John McCain and Sarah Palin are good, honest people. I feel that they truly love their country and will do all they can to protect it and make it a better place. I think they would put the greater good of our nation and it's citizens above their own personal welfare. Their vlaues more closely compare to my values which are a far from the values of Barack Hussein Obama or his Hollywood supporters.

Allyson, If racism and prejudice have nothing to do with your decision why did you refer to Barack Obama with his middle name? Who the @#$% cares what his middle name is??

Why didn't you say Sarah Louise Heath Palin or John Sidney McCain?

Just wondering

The Nanny said...

Thank you for your response, Allyson. I also agree that John McCain and Sarah Palin are good people.

But I have lost a lot of respect for Sarah Palin recently with all the hooplah during her rallies--she just stands there and smiles while people shout "he's a TERRORIST!" towards Obama and, in one case, "Kill him!" I would have thought that, as a Christian, she would have stepped in and said that wasn't appropriate.

Also, I find it ironic that Sarah Palin is so anti-abortion in any case (even rape, incest, etc.) yet she has no problem slaughtering innocent animals for FUN. I mean this in no disrespect (really, really), but how does your church (and you) view that?

(I know my comment is off-topic. You can feel free to delete it, but I'd love to hear your response.)

The Nanny said...

I watched the debates. On certain issues (Gay marriage), I heard a hard NO from Palin. I heard a Biden skirt the issue.

Allyson said...

I like to use his whole name because it bothers him when people use it and I think he should be true to himself and his name and heritage. I'm just trying to help him out with that.

Allyson said...

And this is turning into something that I didn't want it to turn into. I really really don't want to have an arugement on abortion right now. I've never been hunting personally, but can you really compare that to removing a living human baby from it's mothers womb and then taking it to a utility room, putting it on a shelf, and leaving it to die? I have given birth to four children and I am sorry, but that thought repulses me. I can't even think about it.

Unknown said...

The nanny,

Allyson is right, our church is very clear that they are against abortion. But just so you know they also said this:

"Church leaders have said that some exceptional circumstances may justify an abortion, such as when pregnancy is the result of incest or rape, when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy, or when the fetus is known by competent medical authority to have severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth. But even these circumstances do not automatically justify an abortion. Those who face such circumstances should consider abortion only after consulting with their local Church leaders and receiving a confirmation through earnest prayer. "

And still speaking to the nanny, they do also say something about animals. Though not as direct. We have what we call the word of wisdom which is a health guideline. It contains many things like not drinking alcohol, coffee, getting plenty of rest, and eating whole grains. We are also told to use meat sparingly and in times of famine or hunger.

Here is a quote from our scriptures:
The Doctrine and Covenants section 89-
12 Yea, a flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly;
13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine.
14 All agrain is ordained for the use of man and of beasts, to be the staff of life, not only for man but for the beasts of the field, and the fowls of heaven, and all wild animals that run or creep on the earth;
15 And these hath God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger.

Unknown said...

The Nanny- there are many quotes by our church leaders about the sacred nature of animals. I won't quote them here but I can send them to you if you are interested.

Allyson said...

Thank you Farrah, after I went to bed, I thought I should have said something about the Word of Wisdom, but I was so tired last night I could hardly keep my eyes open.

Congratulations everyone one being civil. Just in case anyone was wondering about using Obama's middle name, guess who the first person to use it during the campaign was? Yep... Barack did. "You can't get much different from George Bush than Barack Hussein Obama". Emphasis on Hussein.
Also, health care is a privelage provided by a prosperous society, not a right. I didn't see it anywhere in our constitution. We have developed the best health care in the world through the free market system while the socialized medicine systems throughout the world are frighteningly bad. Why do the wealthy in Canada come here for treatments? Why have the costs of some drugs skyrocketed over 2000 % in anticipation of the government paying the tab? You know, the government that will pay thousands of dollars for a toilet seat. The government that spent all the money that should have been put away for social security. Do you really want them anywhere near your health care? Just give me a tax credit for each member of my family and let me buy my own health care thank you.
I have been in many countries and I can tell you that the poorest among us here are so much better off than the poor in a socialist country.
Socialized anything is bad. Both candidates have socialist policies. The way I made my determination on who to vote for is like this: A president does not have to know everything. They do not have to be expert. They have to be patriotic, honest, and most of all a good judge of character. With that honesty and judgement they must appoint advisors to their cabinet that are also honest and expert in their fields. I dream of McCain as Commander in Chief (he'd be great, he is expert) with Mitt Romney as Sec Treasury (expert in the economy) and Rudy Giuliani as Attorney General (can you imagine him going after the people who brought about this economic crisis?).
On the other side you have a guy who associates with known socialists, terrorists, and has economic advisors who made millions as CEO's of Fannie Mae. You can tell a person's true character by who his friends are. He is a heck of a speaker, but that's just what we call acting.

Now, THAT was a long post.

Oh, and I think Chris Mosely was being sarcastic, not racist.

"You can't get much different from George Bush than Barack Hussein Obama". Awesome because I want to get as FAR AWAY from Bush as possible.

Does everyone realize that Barack went by Barry Obama for most of his life? If he was trying to hide something he could have just kept it.

The Nanny said...

Allyson, I apologize for starting something you didn't want to get into.

Anonymous said...

I think I may have been misunderstood regarding Barrack's (or Barry's if you prefer) middle name. When I said "emphasis on Hussein" I meant that he emphasized that name when he was speaking. I don't care what his name is. It has no effect on how I perceive him. I think it's great that he began going by Barrack. It's probably in tribute to his ancestry. Good for him. My problems with him are strictly in his policies. I think he is brilliant. He is an inspirational speaker. He is effective in what he pursues. He acts presidential in his demeanor. If a republican were elected president he would be great in a high cabinet position as a voice of opposing council. I just disagree with socialism in this country. Strike that. If there was no such thing as greed and selfishness, socialism could really work. Life would be great. But until people learn to be unselfish and to act with integrity socialism is doomed to failure. Both candidates espouse socialist views and policies. Barrack is extremely socialist. McCain is moderately socialist mixed with capitalism. I agree with many of McCains positions. Remember, McCain was the darling of the democratic party until he ran for president because he worked with the democrats on several important issues. He has publicly atacked republicans and George Bush in particular on several occasions -including the management of the war. He sounded the warning about Fannie and
Freddy when Barrack's advisors were running -ruining- them.

Subject: What if things were switched around.....think about it.
Would the country's collective point of view be different?

Could racism be the culprit?

Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including
a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe
disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while
he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain
killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?
(The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption
in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings
and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included
discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many
occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality,
do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes
positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in
another when there is a color difference.

Educational Background:

Barack Obama:

Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in
the land as well as our standing in th e world. You make the call.

There has to be a reason that, in spite of the above, we are where we are today. Racism is the Key!

Of course, there is a generous dosage of country-wide stupidity too.

This is Chris Moseley. What I posted was a joke people. Seriously, lighten up a bit. No matter who becomes President, nothing is going to change, as usual both of the candidates make empty promises they do not intend to honor just to pander for your vote. Don't take life so seriously, you won't get out of it alive.
